Frequently Asked Questions

Short, direct answers about what Maccess does, what's free, and how iPhone-to-Mac control works. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see How it works.
Can I control my Mac from my iPhone?
Yes. Maccess turns your iPhone into a trackpad and keyboard for your Mac. Install the Maccess app on iPhone and the free Maccess Helper on the Mac, pair them over Wi-Fi with a QR code or passcode, and you can move the cursor, click, scroll, type, and control volume and media. Maccess Pro adds Online Access so the same controls work from anywhere.
Is Maccess free?
Maccess has a free tier and a Pro subscription. Free includes the remote touchpad, keyboard, volume and media controls, and local Wi-Fi pairing with one Mac. Maccess Pro ($4.99 per month or $39.99 per year) adds Online Access from anywhere, Mirror & Control screen mirroring, Mac Finder file browsing, Send to Mac transfers, multiple Macs, and the Mackie AI assistant.
How do I set up Maccess?
Four steps: install Maccess Helper on the Mac from maccess.io, install Maccess on iPhone from the App Store, add a Mac in the app and scan the QR code shown by Helper (or type the passcode), then start a session. Local control needs both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
Can I control my Mac when I'm away from home?
Yes, with Maccess Pro's Online Access. Your Mac needs to be on, awake, and running Maccess Helper, with both devices signed in to the same Maccess account. Connections are tied to your account, so only your trusted devices can reach the Mac.
Can I see my Mac's screen on my iPhone?
Yes. Mirror & Control (a Maccess Pro feature) streams the Mac display to your iPhone live, and you can touch the mirrored screen directly to click, drag, and scroll — including on Macs with multiple displays.
Does Maccess work without internet?
Local sessions run over your own Wi-Fi network and stay on it — once the iPhone and Mac are paired on the same network, control works without an internet connection. Internet is only needed for Online Access sessions from outside your network.
What do I need to run Maccess?
An iPhone running iOS 17 or newer, a Mac running macOS 14 or newer, the Maccess app from the App Store, and the free Maccess Helper app on the Mac from maccess.io.
Is Maccess secure?
Pairing is deliberate: the Mac shows a QR code or passcode that you must confirm on the iPhone, so a device can never attach silently. Sessions are encrypted, local sessions stay on your own network, and Online Access connections are tied to your signed-in account. Maccess does not sell personal information — the Privacy Policy covers the details.
What is Mackie, the AI assistant?
Mackie is Maccess Pro's AI assistant for your Mac. You can chat or speak a request from the iPhone — like finding a file, summarizing work, or running a task — and Mackie carries it out on the Mac. It can also run through AI coding tools already installed on the Mac, such as Claude Code, alongside Maccess AI's own models.
How is Maccess different from remote desktop apps like VNC or TeamViewer?
Remote desktop tools stream your whole screen and expect a desktop-style session. Maccess is touchpad-first: it feels like using an iPhone, with native gestures, instant QR pairing, and controls designed for one-hand use. Full screen mirroring is still there when you need it, but you are not forced through a heavy desktop streaming setup to click a button or type a line.
Can I send files from my iPhone to my Mac?
Yes. Send to Mac transfers photos and documents from the iPhone to the Mac, and Mac Finder lets you browse the Mac's folders from the phone. Both are part of Maccess Pro.
How many Macs can I control?
The free tier pairs with one Mac. Maccess Pro supports multiple Macs on one account, and you can switch between them from the My Macs screen.
